Rock the Dogma

Sharif don’t like it / Rockin’ the Dogma / Rock the Dogma.

Ok, maybe not.

First up, a nice article from David Brooks highlighting the ways the Obama Administration has “scrambled the conventional categories”, but more importantly, what more they could do.  Specifically a long-term growth agenda based on “Path to Prosperity” and “The Pro-Growth Progressive“.   I’m sure you’ve memorized both.

He calls for Obama to “lay the groundwork for a whopping second-term agenda: tax simplification, entitlement reform, a new wave of regional innovation clusters, a new wave of marriage-friendly tax policies.”

Innovation, simplification, reform . . . my nipples are hard. And lonely.

Next, climate change legislation or lack thereof. I could not be more fucking tired of the knee-jerk deniers. Those who choose to ignore overwhelming evidence of climate change because the messengers and solutions they propose don’t fit into their myopic view of the world. “La-la-la-la-la-la-la” (more…)

On cable TV and talk radio, a push toward polarization – by Michael Smerconish

I’d argue that the climate in Washington is being shaped by an artificial presentation of attitudes on cable TV and talk radio. To view and to listen is to become convinced that there are only two, diametrically opposed philosophical approaches to the issues. And yet, working daily in both mediums, I often think that the only people I meet who see the world entirely through liberal or conservative lenses are the hosts with whom I rub shoulders. (more…)

Power Rangers

Here’s a good article by one of the CZ Hall of Fame David Brooks about the need for the U.S. to unleash technology to find the next (and clean) energy source.

He’s skeptical about Cap’N Trade and a carbon tax. But bullish on technology. It sounds like he’s stealing Thomas Friedman’s riff. A loyal CZ reader asked me to explain my bro-mance with Thomas Friedman. It’s the jowls. Oh yes, those jowls.

Sporting Some Morning Hope

I feel so young and spry this morning, sporting some morning hope after reading this article from David Brooks.  It’ll make you feel better about the future. Head up people, we’re America! USA! USA! USA!

A Cocoon Free Zone

Great great article today in the New York Times by David Brooks.

Brooks is a moderate Republican newspaper editorial writer. As Stephen Colbert said, two dying industries. We at CZ find him to be thoughtful and refreshing. We highly recommend this article for no other reason than this passage…

“We live in a country in which many people live in information cocoons in which they only talk to members of their own party and read blogs of their own sect. They come away with perceptions fundamentally at odds with reality, fundamentally misunderstanding the man in the Oval Office.” writes Brooks. You could replace the words “man in the Oval Office” with just about anything and it would still make sense.

Your CZ will always be 100% Cocoon Free. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you’re smarter than everyone else.
